RIGHT NOW
Now is the time to start talking about your dream destination wedding with a Destination Wedding Specialist at Young’s/American Express Travel. Gather information for destinations, hotel offerings, tours and pricing.

6 MONTHS TO GO
You've dreamed, you've compared, you've discussed-now it’s time to make your reservations.

  • Book airline flights to your selected destination
  • Reserve a rental car (if desired) and/or transfers
  • Reserve hotel rooms, cruise ship accommodations and/or tour package. Be prepared to leave a deposit if required.
  • Consider purchasing travel insurance. Coverage and pricing can be discussed with your travel professional. 
  • Research the marriage requirements for your destination wedding. Begin to gather paperwork. 
  • If you’re traveling to a foreign port, now is a good time to find out if any immunizations are required. Please note that some immunizations will need to be taken in several doses with weeks in between. Your travel professional can assist you with the information needed or you may visit the Center for Disease Control and Prevention website at http://www.cdc.gov/.

3 to 4 MONTHS TO GO

  • If you are traveling internationally, get your passport and visas (if required) in order.
  • Create a wedding website to let everyone know about the event. Send out a note to direct your guests to the website.
  • TIP: This is a great way to let your guests know all the information regarding your special day.

2 to 3 MONTHS TO GO

  • Make arrangements with your travel specialist to pay your final payment which may be due at this time.
  • Research local restaurants and events available at your destination wedding location. Ask your travel specialist for suggestions.
  • Research sightseeing tours and shore excursions. If possible, you should plan to pre-book these tours as many popular ones fill up quickly. 
  • If you need luggage or a camera now is a great time to obtain these items.
  • TIP: These are wonderful items to add to your gift registry.

1 MONTH TO GO

  • Prepare your packing and shopping list.
  • Research the easiest way to use money/credit. Most places in the, but not all, will have ATMs and will take credit cards. You may want to consider obtaining American Express Travelers Checks. Ask your travel professional for details.
  • If you are planning to be away for a long trip, you may want to arrange a housesitter.

2 WEEKS TO GO

  • Meet with your Travel Specialist to obtain all travel documents needed for your destination wedding.
  • If possible, acquire some currency ($100 or so) of the country you will be visiting.
  • TIP: Remember to carry enough foreign currency for tips, Sky Caps, cab fare, etc.

1 WEEK TO GO

  • Contact the post office and ask them to hold your mail.
  • Make arrangements for any pets you may have.
  • Discontinue newspaper delivery until you return.
  • Contact any stores you are registered with and ask them to hold any gifts.
  • Make a few photocopies each of any important papers, including passports, Traveler’s Check numbers, insurance documents, itinerary, credit cards, etc. You should pack one set and give another to a trusted friend or family member as they may be helpful in an emergency.
  • Pick up any items you may need.
  • Have any prescriptions filled.
  • Begin to lay out clothes for your trip.

2-3 DAYS TO GO

  • Make/confirm reservations for your local transfer to and from the airport.
  • Reconfirm all overseas flights and hotel arrangements.
  • Check the weather forecast for your destination. You may visit http://www.weather.com/  for information.
  • Change your voicemail message at home and at work.
  • Leave house keys with a friend or relative for emergencies.
  • Remember to remove any items from your fridge that may spoil while your away.

 

 
 

1 DAY TO GO

  • Reconfirm any domestic flights.
  • Make sure your luggage is packed and proper identification is noted on all bags.
  • TIP: Use bright colored ribbons or tape to mark you bags. This will make it easier to spot them on the baggage carousels.
  • To avoid potential hassles at the airport, keep your prescription drugs in their original bottles.
  • Gather all your travel documents (airline tickets, tour vouchers, passport) and place them together.

DEPARTURE DAY

  • After all of your planning, it is now time to relax and enjoy your memorable destination wedding.
  • TIP: Be sure to have the proper identification needed for airport security.
